I have the message records of the individual who received the $1,000 USD Zelle transaction I made back in January of this year, along with their phone number to confirm that they are the same contact.
To cut a long tale short, I have only received $300 back since January. I really don’t want to deal with the headache of filing a small claims lawsuit. Can I challenge an old transaction if I have messaging logs showing that the other party has been promising to pay me back? Or advice on how I could get the remaining $700 returned?
Your proof that they owe you money also establishes your approval of the transaction, so your only options here are limited claims. As soon as you acknowledge that you sent the money on purpose, you’re toast.
Friends and family are the types of individuals you “know and trust” with Zelle. Sadly, a Zelle Recovery is the only dispute procedure available besides “someone hacked my login and used Zelle to steal my money.”
In actuality, the addressee gets sent a request. They are under no requirement to refund the money.
