Am dealing with a frustrating situation and could use some advice. I tried to deposit a tax refund check from the IRS into my Fifth Third Bank account. However, the bank has informed me that the check will be on hold for up to 45 days while they confirm its validity with the IRS.
This seems unusually long to me. I’ve typically seen holds of up to a week for checks, but 45 days is a significant delay. Is this a common practice for government checks, or is this length of hold unusual?
Has anyone else experienced something similar, and if so, how did you handle it?
A 45-day hold does seem unusually long for a tax refund check. Holds for checks are much shorter, usually up to a week. It might be a good idea to contact your bank again for clarification on why it’s taking so long.
Maybe try to review Fifth Third Bank’s policies on check holds, especially for government checks. It may be helpful to compare their practices with other banks to see if this hold period is standard.
