I am interested in what other people think of well-known US institutions.
I have banked with Chase for the past three years. Their app is great, but their customer support is awful. It has left me feeling really disappointed. One of my friends swears by US Bank and says they even give him a call once a month or two to see how he is doing and to ask if he needs help troubleshooting any issues he is been having. I visited a US bank to evaluate their loan rates, and the loan officer there was fantastic—I had a really wonderful experience. I would really love that kind of service. I think a bank’s app is great, and I would like to hear about any positive or negative experiences that US bank customers have had with it.
Tell us which bank you use, and why. Do they have a decent app or good customer service?
For access to a branch and a few other purposes, I use a local credit union. I can go in and speak with the bank president because they only have two branches and provide excellent customer service. They have been excellent with my mortgage and auto loans.
Charles Schwab is what I use for most other things. They waive all fees for me to use any ATM in the globe, including ones that exchange currencies, and I find it to be incredibly helpful.
Since opening an account to avoid paying ATM fees, I have been attempting to spread the word about Schwab for decades. Free checking with no conditions (no minimum amount, no mandatory direct deposit, etc.); all you need to do is create an account with a brokerage that you never have to use. The only drawback I’ve ever experienced is having to withdraw a sizable sum of money and not having a real place to go.

I’ve been banking with Wells Fargo for the past five years, and my experience has been quite positive overall. Their mobile app is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing me to manage my accounts, transfer funds, and deposit checks conveniently from anywhere. What sets Wells Fargo apart for me is their customer service they have consistently been responsive and helpful whenever I’ve had inquiries or issues to resolve.
I appreciate that they offer a range of banking products and services tailored to different needs, and their branch network has been convenient for in-person assistance when necessary. While I haven’t had personal experience with US Bank, hearing about their proactive customer outreach and positive interactions with loan officers is compelling and suggests they prioritize customer satisfaction, which is crucial in banking.
I used a local bank for our business financing. Initially, I tried another local bank where I had a long history, including 15 years with another smaller business. However, the person I worked with there struggled to understand our business model. After a year of no progress, I switched to a different local bank. They quickly offered to finance twice the amount at a lower interest rate and with longer terms.
Even though the approval process with the Small Business Administration (SBA) took a long time, we ended up with the higher interest rate from the first bank because the prime rate had gone up. However, not needing to finance half of the purchase through the seller made the situation much easier for us.

For most other things, I use Charles Schwab. They let me use any ATM in the world with no fees, not even currency exchange ones, and that is too useful to me.
