Does anyone else live in a region where there are a lot of WF branch closures? That with the removal of ATMs from QT stores in the suburbs of north Atlanta have left me in a dead zone. Does anyone else in that area have similar experiences?
Nearly every bank has been reducing the number of their branches for about ten years.
Wells Fargo, in particular, is set to close 500 branches, which is a lot considering that the 17th largest bank only has about 500 branches. Wells Fargo has more branches than many large banks by over 2,000. PNC, with the fourth largest network, still has 2,000 fewer branches than Wells Fargo.
Fewer people are visiting branches because they don’t need them as much anymore. Branches are costly to run and hard to staff. Many are old and expensive to maintain. This is just the way it is.
When it comes to ATMs, their locations often depend on contracts with the businesses where they are placed. Sometimes cost issues arise, or a bank might be outbid for a spot.
A few branches in my area have shut down, but there are still some open, so it has not been too hard to manage. They mostly closed the older branches, which were probably harder to keep up. They shut down a big branch and kept a smaller one with a drive-thru. It seems like fewer people are visiting the branches now. I only go to the branch now to use the ATM since the outdoor ATM was taken out.
Same here. I rarely go inside unless there is not an ATM outside.
I don’t understand why they removed the WF ATMs from other businesses unless it was too expensive. It’s strange to close my branch and the two ATMs nearby. Now, I have to drive 15 minutes to find an ATM unless I want to pay fees.
There’s a 90% chance I’ll move all my accounts from WF in the next few months. Changing banks will be a hassle, but it will save me time in the end.
This isn’t a small area, especially considering the large population from the top of the perimeter to Roswell.
