USAA Closed My Account Without Explanation – What Should Be My Next Steps?

Hello everyone…

I’m reaching out because I just had something really unexpected happen and I’m both very baffled and unsure what my next steps should be.

Today, I found out that my USAA account was closed without any prior warning or explanation. To give you some context, I rarely check this account or use it much because I’m a broke, unemployed college student. I literally scrape pennies in there and have finally managed to establish some savings, but now my account is locked, and USAA has informed me that they ‘refuse to do business with me.’

I’m really stressed out and confused about this whole situation. I have no idea why this happened.

I received the similar email some time ago, and until I fixed it, I was unable to check in and view my account online. Apparently, in order to open the account, a signature must be on file. Apparently, I didn’t have a dignature on file when I opened my account fifteen years ago. It took me a minute to sign the online document and be set to go.

I can understand how stressful and confusing this situation must be. I once had a similar experience with my bank where they closed my account unexpectedly due to a misunderstanding. In my case, I reached out directly to their customer service and escalated the issue to a higher level within the bank. They provided clarity on the reason and helped resolve the situation. For your case, I’d recommend contacting USAA’s customer service for a detailed explanation and to see if there’s a way to reinstate your account or recover your funds. It might also be helpful to ask for a written statement regarding their decision to ensure you have a clear record of what happened.
