Starting February 24, 2025, Synovus will waive the monthly fee for three months, but after that, a $10 monthly fee will apply unless you meet certain requirements, like maintaining a $10,000 balance.
I was grandfathered into a free checking account when Florida Community Bank merged with Synovus, but good things don’t last. Synovus has been adding more fees and reducing branch locations, so it’s becoming less convenient. I only kept this account as a backup for when I visit South Florida, but now I’m wondering if it’s worth keeping.
All former FCB legacy free checking accounts will be converted to Synovus Plus accounts.
What comes with Synovus Plus Checking?
- Credit & Identity Protection: Includes 24/7 credit monitoring, identity theft protection, and $1 million in identity theft insurance.
- Perks & Discounts: Better rates on savings, money markets, CDs, IRAs, and lower APRs on certain loans.
- Banking Benefits: One non-Synovus ATM fee refund per month, free first order of checks, 50% off a safe deposit box, and fee-free transactions at Synovus and Publix Presto! ATMs.
- Waiving the $10 Monthly Fee: The fee is waived if you meet one of the following:
- Military community member
- Maintain a $10,000+ relationship balance
- Maintain at least $3,500 in monthly deposits
- Maintain a $500,000 business relationship balance
- $100 minimum deposit required to open a new Plus Checking account
Is it worth keeping?
I’m debating if I should just close this account. Has anyone else transitioned from a legacy free checking account? Are the benefits worth the fees, or is it time to move on?
