I’m currently in Europe and I can’t access my bank’s app since it doesn’t seem to allow logins outside the US. Is there a way to get around this that doesn’t involve using a VPN? If I do have to use a VPN, how exactly should I set it up? I’ve got Proton VPN installed on my Android, but I’m not sure what settings to use.
The first thing I’d recommend is contacting your bank to see if they have any official solutions for accessing the app abroad. Some banks block logins from outside the country for security reasons but may have alternatives like a secure code or access settings you can change.
I haven’t reached out to them yet, but I’ll give that a try. I was hoping to avoid the hassle of calling, but I guess it’s worth it if there’s an official solution.
If you do end up using Proton VPN, you’ll want to set your location to somewhere in the US to make it look like you’re logging in from there. Open Proton VPN, connect to a US server, and try accessing the app again. It should work as long as the bank doesn’t block VPNs altogether.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll try connecting to a US server with Proton VPN and see if that helps.
No problem! Just be sure to pick a server with low latency for the best performance. It should work as long as your bank doesn’t have additional restrictions in place.
Sometimes banks block VPNs too, so keep that in mind. If Proton VPN doesn’t work, you may have to call the bank to find out if there’s any way for them to allow access from abroad. Some banks can temporarily lift location restrictions.
Good point. I’ll try the VPN first, and if that doesn’t work, I’ll contact the bank. Hopefully one of these solutions will do the trick.
