Finding exceptional tellers is quite challenging. This role carries an unexpectedly high level of responsibility. Not only are tellers entrusted with handling thousands of dollars each week, but for numerous small businesses, they serve as their de facto accounting department.

Moreover, tellers represent the face of the bank, interacting with approximately 90% of customers on a daily basis. If you’re curious about banking, there’s no superior method to grasp its intricacies than by working as a teller. I believe that everyone in banking should experience this role for a few months at least.

Working as a bank teller can be stressful, although the customers are generally more pleasant than in retail or food service. There’s a lot of responsibility, and perfection is expected. Some companies treat employees well, especially considering the minimal educational requirements. Moving up can be challenging, and branch banking is becoming less common, so it’s wise to plan for a transition after a few years. Additionally, the constant customer service aspect can take a toll over time, despite any initial satisfaction with the job.
