Hey everyone! I get paid by cheque from a part-time job, but I’ve been a bit careless about cashing them. Sometimes I don’t deposit them right away, and now I’ve ended up with a mix of cashed and uncashed cheques all in one place. I know for sure there are some I still need to deposit, but since they’re all the same amount, it’s hard to figure out which ones. What would you do in this situation? Any advice would be great!
If you can, check your online banking history. You should be able to see deposits that match the cheques’ amounts.

Thanks for the tip! Problem is, I don’t always deposit them on the same date I get them, and they’re all for the same amount, so it’s tricky to match them up on my banking app.
@JosePesos
Sounds like you’re depositing them, not cashing them for immediate money. If your app doesn’t show cheque images, try checking your bank’s website. Sometimes they have more details online than on the app. You can also check your bank statement for cheque numbers and match them with what you have.
@Ren
Yeah, you’re right—I’m depositing them. I’m in Canada, and my app doesn’t show the images of the cheques I deposit. Makes things a bit harder.

Check if the bank’s website might have the images, even if the app doesn’t. Also, sometimes your monthly statement might have cheque numbers listed. If all else fails, you can ask whoever issued the cheques—they’ll likely know if they’ve been cashed. Worst case, you can ask at your bank branch, though they might refuse older cheques. To avoid this in the future, maybe write ‘deposited on xx/xx/xxxx’ on the back after you deposit it.

Don’t just rely on the deposit area of your app. Check your regular banking activity. Most modern banks let you see images of deposited cheques, and you can match them to the physical ones you have. Or ask whoever does your employer’s payroll; they should have a record of any outstanding cheques.
@Arin
True, but some banks still don’t have this feature. I’ve been pushing for it at my bank for years.
@Arin
I can see images of cheques I’ve written, but not the ones I deposit. Guess it depends on the bank.
You might want to contact whoever issued the cheques. They should be able to tell you which ones are still outstanding. And for future deposits, maybe write ‘mobile deposit done on [date]’ next to your signature so you know it’s been processed.
You could ask your bank for copies of the deposited cheques if you can’t find them online. They might charge a fee, though. Moving forward, write the deposit date on the cheque so you know it’s done.
If you’re still confused, just take all the cheques to a branch. A banker should be able to help you figure out which ones are uncashed.
Most banks can pull cheque images if you ask, but there might be a fee. Alternatively, your employer should have records of any outstanding cheques.
You could check with your employer’s payroll department—they should have a record of which cheques are still outstanding. In the future, try marking each cheque as ‘deposited’ when you’re done with it.
I only sign my cheques right before I deposit them, then I write the confirmation number on the back. Makes it easier to track.
