My son received money from his mother via Zelle to his cell phone. However, he lacks a bank account. He exclusively makes use of the Cash app. Although I noticed Zelle has an app, does it support the Cash app?

Zelle and Cash App are separate systems and don’t directly support each other. If your son only uses Cash App, he might need to transfer the Zelle funds to a bank account first or use a third-party service to facilitate the transfer. Alternatively, he could open a bank account to integrate Zelle.

Zelle cannot be used without an eligible US bank or credit union account, or, in some cases, with an eligible prepaid card from a bank in the Zelle network.
However, if you do not have a bank account but need to do a money transfer via Zelle, you can ask a friend or family member with a bank account to help you.
If your son needs to access the funds, he might need to transfer the money to a bank account first and then move it to the Cash App.
He should probably go ahead and open a bank account.
